While wandering the streets of London, young drifter Martin Taylor encounters Tom Bates, a troubled family man whose daughter has been left severely disabled following a tragic hit-and-run accident. Claiming to be a former admirer of the young woman, Martin gains entry into the family's home and quickly earns the trust of Tom's wife, Norma. As Martin embeds himself deeper into their lives, however, it becomes increasingly clear that his motives are far darker than anyone could have imagined.
 
Originally the subject of significant controversy, Brimstone and Treacle remains one of the most challenging and thought-provoking British films of the 1980s, driven by strong performances from Sting, Denholm Elliott and Joan Plowright.
