Mona Lisa 4K Ultra HD Limited Edition presents Neil Jordan’s haunting 1986 crime drama in a brand new 4K restoration from the original camera negative, approved by the director. A gritty yet unexpectedly lyrical portrait of London’s underworld, the film pairs hard-edged realism with moments of romantic melancholy.
Bob Hoskins delivers one of the finest performances of his career as George, a small-time ex-con hired to chauffeur a high-class escort for a powerful gangster. When she persuades him to help track down a missing friend, George is pulled into a shadowy underworld far darker than he ever anticipated. Hoskins’ layered, deeply human portrayal earned major international acclaim, including awards at Cannes, the BAFTAs and the Golden Globes.
With a screenplay by Jordan and David Leland, and the recurring strains of Nat King Cole’s title song drifting through neon-lit Soho streets, Mona Lisa remains one of the defining British crime films of the 1980s.
