Friedman’s attempt to elevate exploitation filmmaking through elaborate period settings and colorful visual design, both films showcase the increasingly ambitious world of late-1960s independent adult-oriented cinema. Blending costume drama, dark comedy and surreal pulp storytelling, these cult curiosities reflect a fascinating transitional moment in American exploitation history.

The Lustful Turk follows an English aristocrat captured by pirates and drawn into a dangerous world of manipulation and revenge, while The Joys of Jezebel delivers a supernatural fantasy-comedy involving identity-swapping, deception and infernal bargains. Directed by exploitation veterans Byron Mabe and Peter Perry, the films stand as vivid examples of the era’s increasingly stylized and eccentric approach to genre filmmaking.

directed by: Byron Mabe, Peter Perry
starring: Luanne Roberts, Emily Barlow, Linda Stiles, Harvey Shain
1968, 1969 / 71 min, 76 min / 1.37:1, 1.85:1 / English / DTS-HD MA 1.0

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0747/8096/6982/files/file_d5c46f11-e1dc-480c-9ff7-680c365851be.webp?v=1791341538
