The Men (1950) Limited Edition (Australian Import) [Blu-ray]

The Men 1950 Limited Edition Blu-ray presents Marlon Brando in his powerful screen debut, directed by Academy Award winner Fred Zinnemann and written by Carl Foreman. Produced by Stanley Kramer, the film is an unflinching postwar drama about injury, isolation and the difficult process of rebuilding a life.

Ken Wilocek is a young infantry lieutenant left paralysed from the waist down by a sniper’s bullet during the final days of World War II. Bitter and withdrawn in the paraplegic ward of a veterans’ hospital, Ken refuses to see his devoted fiancée Ellen and struggles to imagine a future beyond his injuries.

With the help of a direct, compassionate doctor and the other veterans around him, Ken slowly begins confronting the emotional and physical realities of his new life. Teresa Wright, Everett Sloane and Jack Webb co-star alongside Brando, while numerous real paraplegic veterans appear in the film. Brando famously spent a month living in the hospital ward where filming later took place while preparing for the role.
