40 Watts from Nowhere [Blu-ray]

40 Watts from Nowhere Blu-ray documents the rise of KBLT, the low-power pirate radio station founded by Sue Carpenter in her Los Angeles apartment during the mid-1990s.

Frustrated by the limitations of commercial radio, Carpenter built a 40-watt FM transmitter in 1995 and began inviting local musicians, artists and strangers into her home to play whatever they wanted. The station quickly developed a following and became part of a growing underground radio movement that challenged conventional broadcasting and helped pave the way for legal low-power FM radio.

Featuring Sue Carpenter alongside Mike Watt, Keith Morris, Don Bolles, Bob Forrest, Tom Morello and others, 40 Watts from Nowhere captures the music, personalities and DIY culture surrounding KBLT, including appearances by artists such as Mazzy Star and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
