A Hero Never Dies (Australian Import) [Blu-ray]

A Hero Never Dies Blu-ray presents Johnnie To’s 1998 Hong Kong heroic bloodshed thriller in an Australian import region free release. Made during the rise of Milkyway Image, the film stars Leon Lai and Lau Ching-wan as rival bodyguards caught between loyalty, fate and the violent power struggles of their employers.

Jack and Chau work on opposite sides of a gang conflict that stretches from Hong Kong to Thailand, but the two men gradually come to recognize each other as mirror images. Bound by honour, pride and a shared belief in their own doomed codes, their rivalry becomes something closer to mutual understanding as the world around them collapses.

Stylish, operatic and full of Johnnie To’s signature fatalism, A Hero Never Dies is one of the director’s most flamboyant takes on the heroic bloodshed tradition. This Blu-ray edition includes a restored presentation, new commentary, new interviews, video essay, archival extras, improved subtitles, booklet and collector’s slipcase.
