An ambitious yakuza boss engineers a plan to consolidate power across rival organisations. As alliances shift, a loyal gang enforcer finds himself caught between his obligations and the betrayals taking shape around him.

Takashi Miike’s crime epic follows the manoeuvring behind organised violence as well as the people forced to carry it out. Its deliberate pace and tangled loyalties build a portrait of an underworld in which personal commitment offers little protection from those seeking control.
