Alien On Stage [Blu-ray]

What happens when a group of British bus drivers decides to stage a theatrical adaptation of Ridley Scott's ALIEN? Not a slick West End production. Not a professional touring show. A homemade version performed by ordinary people with little or no theatrical experience, a tiny budget, improvised sets, homemade costumes, and an almost unreasonable amount of enthusiasm.

ALIEN ON STAGE follows the wonderfully unlikely story of the Dorset bus drivers who take on one of the most ambitious--and seemingly impossible--projects imaginable: turning one of cinema's most iconic science-fiction horror films into a live stage play. They have no professional theater pedigree and no fancy special effects department. Instead, they have a village hall, whatever materials they can get their hands on, a cast of enthusiastic amateurs and a determination to somehow make ALIEN work onstage. The result is every bit as unpredictable as you might expect--and somehow, completely compelling.

What follows is a gloriously chaotic theatrical experience that could easily have been the end of the story. But then something extraordinary happens. Word begins to spread, people start paying attention, and this bizarre little production from a group of bus drivers suddenly gets an opportunity that nobody could have anticipated.

They are invited to take their homemade ALIEN to London's legendary West End. The village-hall production that seemed like an impossible pipe dream has a chance to perform in one of the world's most famous theater districts. The cast and crew must rise to the challenge of taking their wildly ambitious show from a local Dorset stage to a real West End audience.

Funny, warm and irresistibly unexpected, ALIEN ON STAGE is a documentary about creativity, friendship and the sheer audacity to attempt something that probably shouldn't work--and discovering what can happen when people refuse to believe it's impossible.
