Boy Blu-ray presents Nagisa Oshima’s 1969 film in a Standard Edition UK import release from Radiance Films. Based on a true story and shot on locations throughout Japan, the film follows a fractured family moving from town to town while carrying out a series of fake hit-and-run accidents to extort money from drivers.

The father, unable to hold a normal job after being injured during the war, forces his wife and children into the scheme as they gradually make their way north. As tensions grow between his father and stepmother, the oldest boy retreats into running away, imagination and an elaborate fantasy world built for himself and his younger stepbrother.

Considered one of Oshima’s most lyrical and emotionally affecting films, Boy is also a clear precursor to the intimate family dramas later associated with filmmakers such as Hirokazu Koreeda. This Region Free Blu-ray edition features a new 4K restoration from the original negative, uncompressed mono PCM audio, newly improved English subtitle translation and extras including an introduction, archival interview and Oshima’s documentary 100 Years of Japanese Cinema.
