Set during the 1919 Spanish flu epidemic, Bridgehurst Asylum for the Sane follows a young woman who is wrongly confined to an institution whose respectable appearance hides manipulation, control and greed. With help from a young suitor and fellow residents, she begins exposing the abuses taking place behind its doors.
Directed by Brent Stainer and co-written with Julia Hawkins, this period thriller grew out of Archbishop Murphy High Schoolās pandemic-era filmmaking programme before being acquired by BayView Entertainment. Emma Weller, Steven Locke and Hawkins lead a story about resisting institutional power and making concealed wrongdoing visible.
