Christiane F. [Blu-ray]

Christiane F. Blu-ray presents Uli Edel’s 1981 German drama in a director-approved Criterion Collection special edition. Based on the true story of Christiane Felscherinow, the film offers a stark and unforgettable portrait of alienation, addiction and youth culture in 1970s West Berlin.

Thirteen-year-old Christiane is drawn into Berlin’s underground club scene, where the excitement of nightlife and escape soon gives way to a far darker reality. As her life moves further into the city’s margins, the film becomes a haunting look at vulnerability, dependency and the failures of the world around her.

Shot with a raw sense of place and powered by an electrifying David Bowie soundtrack, Christiane F. became an instant cult sensation and remains one of the most powerful films about youth in crisis. This Criterion Blu-ray features a new 4K digital restoration, new interview with director Uli Edel, new appreciation by Sean Baker, interview with Natja Brunckhorst, screen tests and an essay by Hester Baer.
