Humphrey Bogart stars as Richard Mason, a husband whose attraction to his wife Katherine’s sister leads him to plan a murder. The decision follows a celebration of the couple’s fifth wedding anniversary at a friend’s home. Richard believes the killing has been concealed, but disturbing incidents begin to undermine his certainty: could Katherine still be alive?
Alexis Smith and Sydney Greenstreet join Bogart in this story of a romantic triangle turned murderous. Director Curtis Bernhardt brings a German Expressionist influence to its atmosphere of suspicion. Arthur T. Horman and Dwight Taylor wrote the screenplay.
