Dr. James Kildare brings growing confidence to his work at Blair General Hospital, but experience cannot shield him from the emotional cost of caring for patients. With Dr. Leonard Gillespie's guidance, he faces cases that challenge both medical judgment and personal conviction. The fourth season expands its patient stories through longer dramatic arcs and appearances by guest stars including Walter Matthau, Lee Marvin and Angie Dickinson. In the three-part story Rome Will Never Leave You, Kildare and Gillespie travel to Italy, where professional responsibilities become entangled with romance and heartbreak. Compassion remains essential when treatment alone cannot resolve a crisis.
