Eclipse Series 49: Five Radical Documentaries [Blu-ray]

Eclipse Series 49: Five Radical Documentaries Blu-ray collects five incendiary nonfiction works from groundbreaking Japanese filmmaker Kazuo Hara and producer Sachiko Kobayashi — uncompromising portraits of outsiders, revolutionaries and marginalized voices fighting against the rigid structures of modern Japanese society.

Spanning more than four decades of radical filmmaking, these documentaries blur the line between observer and participant, confronting subjects ranging from disability activism and feminism to wartime atrocities, artistic identity and corporate negligence. Through intensely personal interviews, confrontational encounters and startling emotional intimacy, Hara crafts documentaries of extraordinary immediacy and moral force.

Featuring the landmark films Goodbye CP, Extreme Private Eros: Love Song 1974, The Emperor’s Naked Army Marches On, A Dedicated Life and Sennan Asbestos Disaster, this essential Eclipse collection captures one of documentary cinema’s most fearless and provocative creative partnerships.
