Fires on the Plain [4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray]

Fires on the Plain 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray presents Kon Ichikawa’s harrowing 1959 war masterpiece in its definitive UHD edition. Set during the final collapse of Japan’s campaign in the Philippines, the film follows Private Tamura, a sick and abandoned soldier drifting through a devastated landscape populated by starving, broken remnants of the Imperial Army. As discipline dissolves and survival becomes the only law, Ichikawa strips war of heroism and ideology, confronting viewers with moral disintegration, isolation, and unspeakable desperation. Starkly photographed and unflinchingly bleak, Fires on the Plain stands as one of the most powerful anti-war films ever made, restored here in 4K with carefully curated supplements that deepen its historical and cinematic impact.
