Leaving Mayberry behind, kindly gas-station attendant Gomer Pyle enlists in the Marine Corps and finds himself under the command of the impatient Sergeant Vince Carter. Gomer means well, but his literal-minded approach to instructions and determination to help everyone around him turn routine duties into complications. Carter's attempts to maintain order are constantly tested by a recruit whose good nature is almost impossible to resist. Friends, fellow Marines and romantic misunderstandings add to the confusion as life on and off base unfolds. Jim Nabors and Frank Sutton lead this five-season spin-off of The Andy Griffith Show, mixing military mishaps with gentle character comedy.
