Hacks: The Complete Series (US Import) [Blu-ray]

Las Vegas comedy veteran Deborah Vance faces losing the residency that has defined her career. In Los Angeles, young writer Ava Daniels desperately needs work. Their shared manager brings them together, pairing two women who would rather be almost anywhere else. Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder star as the comedian and writer whose reluctant collaboration becomes the centre of this five-season comedy.

Working through Deborah’s decades of material forces Ava to see beyond her employer’s public image, while Deborah must consider whether playing it safe is enough. Their partnership takes them out on the road to develop a new stand-up act and eventually into the pressures of launching a late-night show. Creative clashes, personal loyalties and professional ambition continually reshape a relationship in which neither woman finds it easy to give ground.
