Hard Eight (UK Import) [Region B Blu-ray]

Hard Eight Blu-ray is the acclaimed feature debut from Paul Thomas Anderson, introducing the filmmaker's unmistakable style through a gripping neo-noir drama of crime, chance and unlikely redemption. Featuring outstanding performances from Philip Baker Hall, John C. Reilly and Gwyneth Paltrow, the film marked the arrival of one of modern cinema's most celebrated directors.

When down-on-his-luck gambler John is stranded in Reno with little hope, he is taken under the wing of the enigmatic Sydney, who teaches him how to survive by working the casinos. Their uneasy partnership is tested when John falls for Clementine, a cocktail waitress and part-time sex worker, while a reckless scheme involving slick casino insider Jimmy threatens to unravel everything.

Atmospheric, character-driven and quietly suspenseful, Hard Eight is an essential early work from Paul Thomas Anderson.
