Industrialist Walter Williams believes he has a comfortable marriage until a business trip exposes a plot against his life. His wife Irene declines to travel with him and asks him to give her supposed cousin a lift. The passenger is actually her lover, Jim Torrence, sent to murder Walter.
The attack leaves Walter alive, while Jim dies in a collision as he escapes. Shaken by the betrayal, Walter pretends to have lost his memory and goes into hiding, hoping to find a way to bring Irene to justice. Arthur Lubin directs Brian Donlevy, Ella Raines, Helen Walker, Charles Coburn and Anna May Wong.
