Joan of Arc [Blu-ray]

Joan of Arc Blu-ray presents Bruno Dumont’s 2019 French historical drama from KimStim and OCN Distribution. A striking and unconventional portrait of the sainted French icon, the film follows the final three years of Joan’s life as she leads the King of France’s army, is captured and faces trial for heresy.

Lise Leplat Prudhomme returns to the title role after first portraying a younger Joan in Dumont’s 2017 film Jeannette. Here, Dumont brings a stark, formally bold approach to Joan’s final journey, pairing historical drama with spiritual intensity and a lush synth soundtrack by singer/songwriter Christophe.

Beautifully shot and deliberately removed from traditional biopic structure, Joan of Arc offers a provocative take on faith, power, martyrdom and national myth. This Blu-ray edition includes a slideshow on Joan of Arc in film, Q&A material with Bruno Dumont, trailer, booklet and a limited slipcover designed by Steak Mtn.
