Screenwriter Paul Javal is hired to rework an adaptation of The Odyssey for an American producer, but the assignment places new strain on his marriage. As his wife Camille withdraws from him, tensions between art, money and desire turn their journey into a devastating study of a relationship coming apart. Jean-Luc Godard directs Brigitte Bardot, Michel Piccoli and Jack Palance, with filmmaker Fritz Lang appearing as himself, in this landmark of French cinema.
