Long Live the Republic! (UK Import) [Blu-ray]

Long Live the Republic! Blu-ray presents Karel Kachyňa’s powerful and poetic WWII drama in a new HD transfer, capturing the end of the war through the eyes of a young boy caught between imagination and harsh reality.

Set in rural Czechoslovakia during the final days of World War II, the film follows twelve-year-old Olda as he witnesses the collapse of German forces and the arrival of Soviet troops. As the world around him shifts, his inner fantasies collide with the brutality of war, fractured family life, and the uncertain future that lies ahead.

Blending lyrical imagery with stark realism, the film stands as a landmark of Czech cinema, offering a deeply human perspective on history, memory, and loss.
