Love Letters of a Portuguese Nun [Blu-ray]

Love Letters of a Portuguese Nun Blu-ray presents Jess Franco and Erwin C. Dietrich’s infamous 1977 nunsploitation classic, arriving on Blu-ray in North America for the first time fully uncut and newly remastered in HD from the original camera negative. A notorious entry in the wave of European exploitation cinema of the 1970s, the film blends erotic horror, religious blasphemy and surreal nightmare imagery into one of Franco’s most shocking works.

When 16-year-old Maria is forcibly taken to the remote Serra D’Aires convent, she soon discovers that the institution is far from holy. Secretly controlled by a coven of Satanists, the convent subjects Maria to manipulation, torment and ritualistic debauchery under the watchful eyes of the Mother Superior and her corrupt confessor. Gaslit into believing the horrors she experiences are only dreams, Maria writes desperate letters to God in hopes of salvation while darker forces close in around her.

Provocative, controversial and visually striking, Love Letters of a Portuguese Nun remains one of the most notorious and talked-about entries in the nunsploitation genre and a standout title in Jess Franco’s prolific filmography.
