Night of the Sharks [Blu-ray]

Night of the Sharks Blu-ray delivers the official North American disc premiere of this deliriously offbeat Italian sharksploitation thriller, newly scanned in 4K from the original camera negative and paired with a bonus soundtrack CD. Starring three-time Golden Globe nominee Treat Williams, the film blends sun-bleached action, criminal intrigue, and man-versus-shark chaos into a uniquely entertaining cult obscurity.

Set in a quiet Mexican fishing village, a laidback guide and his business partner are pulled into a deadly spiral involving international assassins, stolen diamonds, and a local killer shark ominously nicknamed Cyclops. As greed and violence escalate, the ocean becomes a battleground where divers are stalked beneath the waves. Directed by Tonino Ricci from a screenplay by Tito Carpi, the film features jaw-dropping underwater stunt work by Ramón Bravo and a gloriously over-the-top synth score by Stelvio Cipriani.

Also starring Antonio Fargas, Janet Agren, and John Steiner, Night of the Sharks has earned a reputation as a “weirdly good-natured” and endlessly rewatchable entry in late-era Italian exploitation cinema. This release marks its definitive home video presentation, complete with the full soundtrack on CD.
