On The Run [Blu-ray]

On the Run Blu-ray delivers a hard-boiled Hong Kong noir thriller from director Alfred Cheung, anchored by a bruised, emotionally charged performance from Yuen Biao. After his wife is brutally murdered, police officer Heung Ming uncovers corruption within the force and is forced to disappear, becoming a fugitive hunted by both criminals and the law. His only chance at survival comes through an uneasy alliance with Chui, a lethal assassin with her own reasons for staying on the run.

Released at the height of late-80s Hong Kong action cinema, On the Run blends fatalistic noir, explosive violence, and melancholic character drama into a lean, relentless thriller. Often cited alongside the heroic bloodshed wave popularized by John Woo, the film distinguishes itself through its moral bleakness and stripped-down intensity. This 88 Films Blu-ray presents the film in a new 2K restoration from the original negative, paired with multiple expert commentaries and newly produced interviews that contextualize its place within Hong Kong genre history.
