Raining in the Mountain [Blu-ray]

Raining in the Mountain Blu-ray presents King Hu’s 1979 martial arts classic, blending Buddhist philosophy, intricate plotting and elegantly staged action within a secluded mountaintop monastery.

During the Ming Dynasty, an aging Buddhist abbot prepares to choose his successor while safeguarding the sacred scroll of Tripitaka. An aristocrat and a military general arrive under the pretence of helping select the monastery’s next leader, but both secretly intend to steal the priceless artifact.

As competing factions recommend corrupt candidates and rival martial artists infiltrate the monastery, the struggle for the scroll develops into an elaborate web of deception, shifting alliances and betrayal. Directed by King Hu, Raining in the Mountain combines martial arts, spiritual themes and heist-film intrigue within one of the filmmaker’s most visually distinctive works.
