Resurrection [Blu-ray]

Resurrection Blu-ray presents visionary director Bi Gan’s most ambitious plunge into pure dream cinema to date, a ravishing, shape-shifting odyssey that treats film itself as a passageway into the unconscious. Set in a future where humanity has abandoned dreams in exchange for immortality, the film unfolds as a meditation on memory, illusion, and the haunting power of images.

A dreaming monster, portrayed by Jackson Yee, wanders through a century of cinematic styles and emotional states, drifting from silent-era expressionism to shadow-drenched noir and into a delirious vampire romance captured in one of Bi Gan’s signature long takes. Structured in five hypnotic chapters, Resurrection moves fluidly through time, genre, and sensation, dissolving narrative certainty in favour of atmosphere, texture, and emotional resonance.

As with Bi Gan’s earlier work, the film resists conventional storytelling, instead embracing cinema as a dream language—fragmentary, unstable, and deeply felt. Resurrection stands as a bold declaration of cinema’s ability to access inner worlds, where time bends, identities blur, and images linger long after waking.
