Sheriff Andy Taylor keeps order in Mayberry, North Carolina, with a patient approach that often matters more than his badge. His eager deputy Barney Fife sees a crisis in almost every situation, while Andy's young son Opie is learning lessons that rarely turn out as either expects. At home, Aunt Bee brings care, firm opinions and occasional complications of her own. Around them, the town's barbers, mechanics, shopkeepers and visitors turn small disagreements into elaborate comic problems. Across eight seasons, friendships, courtships and family responsibilities shape a portrait of a close community where even the most stubborn dispute may yield to a little understanding.
