The Angry River [Blu-ray]

The Angry River Blu-ray presents a foundational work in Hong Kong cinema and a defining early release from Golden Harvest. Directed with confidence by Huang Feng and featuring fierce action choreography by a young Sammo Hung, the film captures the studio’s raw energy at the very start of its legendary run.

Angela Mao stars as a determined woman searching for a cure for her injured father, only to discover that the men responsible are still at large — and that she is now a target herself. Blending righteous vengeance with hard-hitting martial arts, the film showcases Mao’s commanding screen presence and helped cement her status as one of the era’s most formidable action stars.

As one of the earliest Golden Harvest productions, The Angry River stands as a vital precursor to the kung fu explosion that followed. This Blu-ray release from 88 Films presents the film newly restored from the original negative, finally giving this seminal classic the presentation it deserves.
