The Burmese Harp [4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray]

The Burmese Harp 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray presents Kon Ichikawa’s profoundly moving 1956 antiwar masterpiece in a stunning new UHD restoration. Set in Burma at the end of World War II, the film follows a Japanese regiment that finds solace and unity through song after surrendering, while a missing soldier—believed dead—reappears disguised as a Buddhist monk. As he wanders among the war’s countless dead, his journey becomes one of spiritual reckoning and moral awakening. Shot in luminous black and white, The Burmese Harp balances lyrical beauty with the devastation of conflict, offering a compassionate meditation on guilt, humanity, and reconciliation. Long regarded as one of the great pacifist films in world cinema, this edition presents the film with archival interviews and critical context that deepen its emotional and historical resonance.
