Henry Fonda plays Elegant John, an exhausted trucker whose rig is repossessed just months before retirement. Refusing to surrender quietly, he steals back his truck and sets out on one final haul. A favour for an old flame, played by Eileen Brennan, takes him and a group of passengers toward the border in this road comedy, also featuring Robert Englund and Susan Sarandon.
