Heiress Melsa Manton discovers a corpse and a diamond brooch in a house late one night. By the time the police arrive, both have vanished. Her reputation as a prankster makes her an easy person to dismiss, and newspaper editor Peter Ames follows the policeās disbelief with a scathing editorial.
Determined to prove that she is telling the truth, Melsa recruits her society friends to find the missing body. Their amateur investigation brings them up against more deaths, suspicious romances and Peter himself. Barbara Stanwyck and Henry Fonda star in Leigh Jasonās comedy-mystery, with Hattie McDaniel and Sam Levene.
