When a teenager is found dead in New York’s Spanish Harlem, Lieutenant Peter Byrne and detective Steve Carella initially suspect suicide. The boy’s mother insists that he was murdered, drawing the two officers into an investigation of the local heroin trade.
The case reaches dangerously close to Byrne’s own family: his daughter Laura, who is engaged to Carella, has a connection to the dealer they are pursuing. Based on Ed McBain’s novel, this crime drama stars Kathy Carlyle, Douglas F. Rodgers, Robert Lansing and Felice Orlandi, with Gene Milford directing.
