The Teacher from Vigevano Limited Edition Blu-ray presents Elio Petri’s bittersweet 1963 commedia all’italiana in a new 4K restoration by StudioCanal. Alberto Sordi stars alongside Claire Bloom in this sharply observed comedy about ambition, status and changing ideas of happiness in postwar Italy.
Antonio Mombelli is content with his modest life as a primary school teacher in the small town of Vigevano. His wife Ada, however, is increasingly dissatisfied with their circumstances and pushes him to leave his secure teaching position, sacrifice his pension and enter the shoe business in pursuit of a more prosperous life.
Balancing humour with mounting tragedy, The Teacher from Vigevano is an early feature from Elio Petri, director of The Working Class Goes to Heaven and A Quiet Place in the Country. This Limited Edition Blu-ray includes the 4K restoration, new and archival supplements, improved English subtitles, reversible artwork and a booklet, presented in full-height Scanavo packaging with a removable OBI strip.
