President Josiah Bartlet and his senior staff work through the daily demands of governing from the West Wing of the White House. Speeches, negotiations and press briefings unfold alongside international emergencies, legislative battles and the personal costs of public service. Chief of staff Leo McGarry, press secretary C.J. Cregg and their colleagues bring different strengths and convictions to an administration constantly forced to choose between idealism and compromise. Across seven seasons, Aaron Sorkin's political drama follows the people behind the presidency through elections, private losses and changing responsibilities, eventually widening its focus to the campaign that will determine Bartlet's successor.
